Pigmentation
DEKA laser treatment designed to reduce the appearance of sunspots, freckles and uneven tone — assessed against your Fitzpatrick skin type, with a protocol built at consultation.
What it is
Our DEKA laser targets excess melanin in pigmented areas, delivering energy that the skin processes and sheds over the following days. Discrete spots typically respond differently to broader, diffuse pigmentation, which is why the protocol is built around what's actually on your skin.
Not every laser setting suits every skin tone. Monica performs a thorough Fitzpatrick assessment and selects wavelength and parameters accordingly, with a patch test for new clients before any full treatment.
Melasma in particular is driven by hormonal and UV factors that persist after treatment, so it's approached conservatively — combined with skincare and daily SPF rather than laser alone.

Pigment, in natural light

Even, and left aloneThe ritual
of 04 steps
We assess the type, depth and density of your pigment, confirm your Fitzpatrick type, and patch test before treatment.
The area is cleansed. Eye protection is fitted for the session.
The DEKA laser is passed over the pigmented area — most people feel a brief warm snap with each pulse.
You leave with SPF guidance — essential in the days after treatment as pigment darkens before it sheds.
The menu
Every pigmentation protocol is quoted at your private consultation — the plan depends on the type, depth and density of your pigment.

Honest downtime
First few days
Treated pigment typically darkens before it sheds — a normal response sometimes called 'peppering'.
7–14 days
The darkened pigment exfoliates away, revealing clearer skin beneath. Daily SPF is essential throughout.
Ongoing
New spots can form with UV exposure. Daily SPF is the single most important factor in maintaining your result.
Questions
For discrete sunspots and freckles, significant improvement is often visible after 1–2 sessions. Diffuse pigmentation, melasma, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation typically require 3–6 sessions spaced 4–8 weeks apart. The number depends on the type, depth, and density of the pigment, which Monica assesses at your consultation.
Not all laser systems are suitable for darker skin tones — some carry risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation if used incorrectly. At Eternity, Monica performs a thorough Fitzpatrick skin typing assessment and selects the appropriate DEKA wavelength and parameters for your skin. A patch test is performed on new clients before any full treatment.
In the days following treatment, treated pigment spots typically darken before they shed — a process called 'peppering' for discrete spots, or a uniform darkening for broader treatment areas. This is a normal and expected response. The darkened pigment exfoliates over 7–14 days, revealing clearer skin beneath. SPF is essential throughout.
Melasma is one of the most challenging pigment conditions to treat because it is driven by hormonal and UV factors that persist after treatment. Laser can significantly reduce melasma, but it requires a carefully chosen protocol — the wrong wavelength or incorrect parameters can worsen it. Monica's clinical expertise is particularly important when treating melasma, and a combined approach including skincare and SPF is always recommended.
Sunspots and discrete pigment lesions cleared with laser do not automatically return, but new spots can form with ongoing UV exposure. Daily SPF use is the single most important factor in maintaining your result. For melasma, ongoing maintenance and hormonal management are part of the long-term strategy that Monica will discuss with you.
